Fallen Police Honored in Oregon

They were added to the memorial wall joining the names of 167 other fallen Oregon law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty since the 1880s.

(SALEM, Ore.) - Approximately 500 fellow officers, family, friends and others joined together Thursday afternoon in Salem at the Oregon Public Safety Academy to honor the brave men and women who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Four names were added to Oregon's Memorial Wall where it is inscribed "WITH THE REDEDICATION OF THE LIVING TO THE PRINCIPLES WHICH GUIDED THESE DEAD, WE GIVE MEANING TO THEIR SACRIFICE."

Oregon Attorney General John Kroger joined John Minnis, Director of the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training, honoring our courageous state troopers, county deputies and city officers. The names of Oregon State Police (OSP) Senior Trooper William Hakim (2008); Woodburn Police Captain Tom Tennant (2008); Portland Police Officer Samuel S. Young (1908); and, Lane County Reserve Deputy Robert Riley (1958) were dedicated and recognized May 7th.

I think we should have a memorial to all the people kille by the police that did not deserve to die. But believe me, it will have to be a lot bigger, as there will be a lot more than 169 names.
