Missing English Cyclist Found Safe in CaliforniaSalem-News.comThe Englishman is said to be in good condition.
(EUREKA, Calif. ) - Oregon State Police have been contacted by the wife of missing English cyclist 49-year-old Clive Leslie Ruddle, that he has arrived in Eureka, California and is OK. This information will be forwarded to law enforcement agencies and search efforts will be discontinued. Investigators learned he was in the southern Oregon coast as late as Friday, May 4th. Information indicates Ruddle stayed at Sunset Bay State Park south of Coos Bay on May 2nd and 3rd. He reportedly left the morning of May 4th. The following email advising of this development was sent from his wife, Diane Powell: "Les has just called me from Eureka where he has just arrived. We did not speak for long as he was on a pay phone - he has not been able to get a signal on his cell phone. Anyway, he is alive and well, and I am now feeling rather foolish for having alerted you all. I was extremely worried and thank you all from the bottom of my heart for taking me seriously and for all that you did so quickly. I am very sorry for the trouble I have caused you unnecessarily - and, believe me, my husband will now be contacting me at very regular intervals. With grateful thanks." According to investigators, Ruddle, from Aldbourne, Wiltshire, England was last heard from by his wife via email on April 30th. According to the email, Ruddle indicated he was in the Tillamook County area. Investigators believe Ruddle, who is described as an experienced rider in good condition, was to be riding along Highway 101 down the Oregon coast into California and was reported to be staying overnight in State Parks along his route. Ruddle flew into Seattle, Washington on April 19th for a planned cycling trip along the West Coast until he was to arrive in San Diego, California around June 6th. He had planned on traveling to Vancouver, British Columbia with the below purchased equipment for his trip, but he was unable to transport the bicycle on the train without disassembling it so he decided to leave from Port Angeles. He was expecting to arrive in Eureka, California last Sunday, May 6th, but did not arrive. Oregon State Police and Tillamook County Sheriff's Office extend our thanks to the media during the last 12 hours as this situation developed.
