Three Die on Motorboat in Coos Bay

File Photo By: Tim King

(COOS BAY AP) - Three people aboard a 16-foot motor boat died Tuesday when it capsized in Coos Bay after getting hit by two waves.

The victims, two men and a woman, have NOT been immediately identified.

Coast Guard officials called off a search for more victims. Authorities were able to verify through calls to relatives that only three people were aboard.

And chief of the Charleston Rural Fire Protection District told The Coos Bay World that a witness reported the boat was struck by two waves after turning south from the jetty.

Mick Sneddon says the witness told authorities the second wave capsized the boat.

The boat was a model typically used for recreational ocean fishing.

The Coast Guard says nobody was wearing a life jacket.
