Pickup Truck Falls Killing Scio Man and Injuring His Son

Salem-News.com

(SCIO) - A Scio man died and his son was injured Saturday evening when a pickup they were working on fell on them, according to Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller.

42-year old Terry Joseph Hughes and his son, 16-year old Nicholas Hughes, were working on a pickup that was suspended above them on a vehicle hoist.

At approximately 6:50 PM Saturday, the support arms on the hoist collapsed and the vehicle landed on both of them, killing Terry and injuring Nicholas. Nicholas sustained injuries to his hip and was transported to Lebanon Community Hospital.

Mr. Hughes ran a small auto repair shop out of his residence at 36437 Freeman Road in Scio.

Units from the Scio and Lebanon Fire Departments responded to the scene as well as deputies from the Linn County Sheriff's Office.
