(SALEM) - Salem-News.com is seeking comments on President Bush`s proposal to place thousands of in many cases, battle weary National Guard soldiers on the U.S.-Mexico border.

The administration first floated the proposal late last week. The president wants to send National Guardsmen to supplement U.S. Border Patrol agents already in place on the 1,951-mile border.

Many of the soldiers that could be slated to participate in the operation have already served up to four tours of duties in the mid-east conflicts that have been initiated under the leadership of President Bush.

Our staff wants to know what you think of the proposal to station military troops along the Mexican border, and how you best see the Oregon National Guard being used. Regardless of whether you agree with the President's plan or disagree, your opinions are important and we want to know what you think.

I disagree with the President's proposal and believe his action would enhance border conflict. The Oregon Guard belongs here at home, in Oregon, to assist in statewide emergencies if necessary. The thought of 5 tours of duty flabberghasts me; it is wreckless use of our military. Thanks
