Mary`s Peak Road Now Open

Salem-News.com

(CORVALLIS) - The road to the top of Mary`s Peak is finally clear of snow and open to the public.

Road maintenance crews from the Siuslaw National Forest were able to clear the road of rocks, limbs and other winter debris this past week, providing safe access to this popular locale.

`The snow that had been lingering on the north side of Mary`s Peak has finally melted, and maintenance crews have been able to clear the road," said Deputy District Ranger Bill Blackwell.

`Normally the road is open by April 1, but this has been an unusual year, in that the snow took so long to melt," added Blackwell.

Visitors to the Peak may once again enjoy a drive up to this popular recreation area, which includes camping, hiking, mountain biking and picnicking.

A recreation pass is required at Mary`s Peak.

Visitors traveling the Mary`s Peak road should expect traffic delays with one lane traffic and flaggers, due to a slurry seal application project.

The application of slurry seal is designed to significantly extend the life of the existing pavement by protecting the undersurface from the effects of aging and environment elements such as rain, snow and ice.
