(GALES CREEK, Ore.) - Washington County sheriff's deputies responded to the Gales Creek area just before 5:00 p.m. today, after receiving reports about a plane crashing in a field.

As it turns out, according to Sgt. Bob Ray with the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the pilot lost control while landing the small passenger plane, which crashed landed in a field. There were no injuries to the pilot or passenger, he said.

Ray says it began around 4:55 p.m. when Sheriff's deputies received a call of a plane that had crash landed into a field.

"The plane was completing a flight from Moscow Idaho and attempted to land on a private gravel runway," he explained.

"This is in the unincorporated community of Gales Creek. The runway was in an open area of farm land."

Deputies contacted the pilot, 52 year-old Jeffrey Duyck of Gales Creek, who indicated that he holds a valid pilot's license. Ray says there was a passenger with Mr. Duyck.

"Mr. Duyck told Sheriff's deputies he was attempting his landing when he saw a pickup truck parked next to the runway. Mr. Duyck said he thought the truck was too close to the runway so he tried to avoid it, causing the plane to veer to the right into an Arborvitae crop."

Ray says Duyck told investigators he was slowed to about 25 miles per hour when the plane left the runway.

"Mr. Duyck said the nose of the plane hit the ground causing it to flip over. There was a small fuel leak which was quickly contained by the Forest Grove Fire Department. Both occupants were uninjured."

Jeffrey Duyck was flying a 1986 Maule MX7-235, four passenger airplane. There was minimal damage to the Arborvitae crop, Ray said. There was however, extensive damage to the plane.

The FAA responded and is conducting an investigation of the crash.
