OSU Taking Applications for Middle-School Summer Science CampSalem-News.comThe application deadline is Friday, May 25th.
(CORVALLIS, Ore. ) - Oregon State University is taking applications for 48 scholarships to attend the ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Summer Science Camp for sixth through eighth graders this summer at OSU. The application deadline is Friday, May 25th. The two-week camp, which will be held Aug. 5th-17th, will offer innovative programs to enhance traditionally underrepresented middle school students’ knowledge in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). It also encourages students to stay in school and foster leadership and citizenship. The full cost of the camp’s education program, field trips, food and lodging will be covered by a scholarship for those students selected to participate. “We particularly hope to receive applications from female students; students who belong to populations who are traditionally underrepresented in the fields of science and math; and students from rural areas,” said Virginia Bourdeau, executive director of the camp. Story continues below OSU received an $80,000 grant earlier this year to host one of the science camps this summer. The Summer Science Camp is a group effort of the Department of 4-H Youth Development Education in the College of Education, the Science and Math Investigative Learning Experiences Program and the College of Engineering.
