Three Salem Firefighters are Honored

(SALEM) - Three Salem Fire Fighters were honored Saturday May 19th, at the 5th Annual Oregon Fire Service Meritorious Awards Banquet.

Captain Paul Telfer received the Award of Excellence. An 18-year member of the Salem Fire Department, a spokesperson for the agency says he is well known for making a positive impression, his work with children has been particularly outstanding. He started "Topic of the Day", a publication that summaries key operational procedures for the Salem Fire Department.

"A highly motivated individual who assures his crew performs optimally. His career reflects the highest standard of professionalism, service and compassion. All of this in addition to acts of heroism and bravery, which includes his recent efforts to save two children from a burning building when an attack line could not be fully extended to the involved room."

Battalion Chief Scott Parker received a Unit Citation for his work with the State of Oregon's Urban Search and Rescue Team. The mission of the Oregon Urban Search and Rescue Task Force is to develop a framework to provide highly specialized, technical rescue services to local jurisdictions that are overwhelmed by natural and/or manmade disasters

Deputy Fire Marshal Bill Holmstrom was awarded a Certificate of Commendation for his work in public education, public information and fund raising efforts.
