Body of Eugene Man Discovered at Surf Line Near Devil's Punch BowlSalem-News.comPolice are trying to find a man who turned in the victim's cell phone, Ipod, and flashlight to the Inn at Otter Crest's front desk.
(OTTER ROCK, Ore.) - The fully clothed body of a Eugene man was discovered on the beach this morning on the rocks above the surf line at the base of a cliff between the Inn at Otter Crest and Devil's Punch Bowl State Natural Area. Oregon State Police and the Lincoln County Medical Examiner are completing the investigation into the death. They say a preliminary determination by the medical examiner indicates that the man died from drowning. OSP Sergeant Bill Vanderberg says a report was received around 9:00 AM of a fully clothed body on the rocks near Devil's Punch Bowl. Early investigation indicates the victim, identified as 25-year old Logan Michael Dethman of Eugene, arrived Friday evening with the family of a friend and was staying at the Inn at Otter Crest. Logan Dethman was last seen by friends leaving the condominium on foot at about 2:30 AM. Vanderberg says a couple visiting the area reported the sighting of the body. Oregon State Police troopers and Depoe Bay Fire & Rescue personnel responded. "Investigators do not think the victim fell from the top of the cliff overlooking the area where it was found, nor is there any indication of foul play or that he took his own life." He says that at about the same time the incident was reported, an unidentified man reportedly turned in the victim's cell phone, Ipod, and flashlight to the Inn at Otter Crest's front desk. OSP would like that person to contact Sergeant Vanderberg at (541) 265-5354 ext. 226.
