(SALEM) - Parents and residents living in the Wright Elementary School area are being advised of an incident that occurred Thursday afternoon.

Wright Principal Randy Gordon says two students were riding their bikes back to the school, located at 4060 Lone Oak Rd S.E., at about 3:15 PM, when a man, at a distance, asked the boys if they would "like some chips".

The boys told the man no, and the man turned back and continued to walk south on Lone Oak. He DID NOT touch or threaten the students.

Salem police were notified of the incident, and they could not locate the man.

The man is described as a white male, approximately 5`10, wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt, "sagging" pants, and had a white bandana around his mouth.

Gordon is encouraging parents and other area residents to talk with their children about basic "stranger danger" safety tips:

Talk to you child about stranger danger.

If your child walks to and from school, go over the route with them.

Point out safe places for them to go if they get into trouble.

Tell them to NEVER go anywhere alone “ travel in a group.

Make sure your child knows his/her address and phone number, and how to reach you in an emergency.

Get together with other parents and see if you can share the responsibility of walking students to and from school.

If you have any information on this incident, call Salem police.
