Hurricane Noel Set to Batter New EnglandSalem-News.comEastern New England will bear the brunt of Noel's fury across the United States.
(STATE COLLEGE, Pa.) - Forecasters say Hurricane Noel will graze the East Coast with gusty winds and rough seas as it transforms into a powerful non-tropical system and heads toward Atlantic Canada. Across the United States, eastern New England will bear the brunt of the storm Saturday with potentially damaging winds, possible coastal flooding, and heavy rain. Noel will continue to skirt the Eastern Seaboard today into the weekend, transforming into a more powerful non-tropical system. The storm will pass nearly 200 miles east of Cape Hatteras tonight, then roughly 100 miles offshore of Cape Cod, Mass., late Saturday afternoon. As Noel grazes the coastline, the storm will spread its gusty winds northward today into Saturday. Seas and the threat for rip currents and coastal flooding will also build along the coasts of the mid-Atlantic and New England. Eastern New England will bear the brunt of Noel's fury across the United States. On Saturday, heavy rain will pour down as potentially damaging winds whip between 40 to 60 mph. Wind gusts will be closer to the 60-mph mark over Cape Cod. Noel will eventually slam into Nova Scotia early Saturday night. As Canadian Expert Meteorologist Brett Anderson details, the storm's fierce winds and drenching rain will spread from south to north across all of Atlantic Canada this weekend.
