(LOS ANGELES) - Like no other time in our history, health care reform is a topic at the kitchen table, around the work place water cooler, and a part of the country’s dialogue.

The primary discussion appears to be focused on the costs of providing health care for all.

What is missing from the discussion is the lack of transparency, patient safety, and medical errors that are driving up the costs of health care. Patient Safety groups are organizing across the country to ensure that this message is heard.

One leading patient advocacy group, the Managed Care Reform Council, is launching their new radio show “American Dawn” to deliver the message for a need for public transparency while revealing the stories of countless Americans who have fallen victim to our broken healthcare system.

American Dawn will debut on HTH radio on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 with host Vickie Travis’ in depth interview with HMO victim turned advocate Jupirena Stein as they discuss Kaiser Permanente’s Graduate Medical Education (GME) Program, and its impact on her surgery and her now debilitated body.

Ms. Stein has suffered from an atrophying lung and strokes after receiving an unnecessary Parotidectomy surgery without her knowledge or her consent.

While managing her severely declining health, Ms. Stein has worked tirelessly to educate others on the GME Program and its ability to allow GME students to fulfill requirements for rare procedures required for board certification on unknowing patients.

American Dawn is honored to also welcome Dr. Charles Phillips to HTH radio on Wednesday, November 11, 2009. Dr. Phillips is an Emergency Medicine Specialist, author, and known expert on HMO reform.

Dr. Phillips will discuss the Blue Cross healthcare system and how the PPO and HMO system have evolved into one in the same as for profit insurers manage dollars instead of health care.

American Dawn can be heard on HTH radio at www.hthradio.net on Wednesdays at 4:00 pm eastern/1:00 pm pacific. American Dawn host Vickie Travis was the previous host of the long running “The Vickie Travis Hour” at Highway to Health.

She is a well known patient advocate who has taken her tragic experience with an HMO system and utilized the internet, radio, and social media to become a leading advocate for HMO reform.

“My mission is to help others avoid what my family has had to endure”, stated Vickie Travis. “Through outreach projects like American Dawn, we can provide an outlet for consumers and advocates to share information with the public on how to navigate through the complex HMO system.”
