Cannon Beach High Angle Rescuers and Coast Guard Rescue Two

Rescue teams were climbed into a cave to retrieve the pair and a Coast Guard helicopter flew them to safety.

(CANNON BEACH, Ore.) - The Coast Guard assisted Cannon Beach, Oregon authorities with the rescue of two people from a cave at Cannon Beach Saturday.

A spokesperson for the Coast Group/Air Station Astoria, says they received a request for assistance from Cannon Beach authorities.

It was reported that a 15-year old boy and a 19-year old man became trapped in a cave approximately 20-feet above the beach at Haystack Rock after the 15-year-old suffered a broken ankle.

A member of the Cannon Beach High Angle Rescue Team was able to climb into the cave to retrieve the pair.

A Coast Guard MH-60 helicopter crew from Group/Air Station Astoria, flew them to waiting emergency service crews for transfer to Columbia Memorial Hospital.
