I-5 Southbound in the Salem Area Closed This Afternoon (UPDATE- I-5 Closed Through 6:00 PM)

Salem Public Works has closed Southbound I-5 at Kuebler Boulevard. Traffic is being routed off at the Kuebler exit and then immediately back on. Still, serious traffic delays are expected through this evening. Expect substantially slower travel on the southbound I-5 Wednesday afternoon.

(SALEM) - Southbound Interstate 5 between Mission Street/N. Santiam Highway and Kuebler Boulevard will be closed until about 6:00 PM this evening, while crews work on a fiber optic line that runs under the freeway, and then repave the road surface. State highway officials extended the closure to 6:00 PM late this afternoon. Southbound motorists should expect heavy traffic and short delays all afternoon long in this area. Alternate routes for local Salem-area traffic include Commercial Street and Cordon Road. Slow down - better roads ahead: Oregon remains open for business as ODOT modernizes the state’s critical transportation lifelines.
