Driver Dies When Car Strikes Tree at 96 MPH

(CLACKAMAS, Ore.) - Fatal crash investigators say a car struck a tree last night at just less than 100 MPH, instantly killing the driver. It happened after the car failed to make a curve in a 40 MPH zone.

Detective Jim Strovink with the Clackamas Sheriff's Office says the crash occurred at 9:55 PM Wednesday evening at 385 SW Rosemont Road in West Linn. The 1997 Lexus automobile is believed to have left the roadway – traveling approximately 108' – prior to impacting a maple tree.

The deceased, lone male occupant of this vehicle is identified as 48-year old Kevin Archie Gilbertson of West Linn.

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Patrol personnel, the Clackamas County Deputy Medical Examiner, West Linn Police, Tualatin Fire and Lake Oswego Fire participated in this fatal traffic crash investigation.
