Surprise Awakening for Oregon City Apartment Dwellers (SLIDESHOW)Salem-News.comJeep wakes up residents early by crashing into Oregon City apartment.
(OREGON CITY) - Residents of the Mountain View Apartment complex in Oregon City at 1840 Molalla Ave woke up early this morning at 3:26 a.m. to the sound of a Jeep that drove into the stairwell of one of the buildings. Steve McAdoo, Public Information Officer with Clackamas Fire, says no one was injured, but upper floor residents had to be assisted down their back balcony by Clackamas firefighters because of the destruction done by the Jeep to their stairs outside their front door. Oregon City Police were on scene and took the driver of the Jeep into custody. McAdoo says the Clackamas firefighter crews from Heavy Rescue 4 and Truck 15 worked for several hours to shore up the front of the building and make it safe until a construction team arrived to begin rebuilding the concrete and steel stairway. "There appeared to be no damage to the structure itself. American Red Cross was called to the scene to make arrangements for the occupants of the four apartments that were effected. They will be unable to stay in their apartment until power is restored and construction is complete. It's unknown how long that will be." This firefighter asks drivers to please remember to keep your eyes on the road and don't be a distracted driver, never text and avoid cell phone conversations while driving.
