Task Force Meets to Discuss Salem River CrossingSalem-News.comThe 21-citizen Task force on Salem River Crossing Project meets October 17th and October 24th.
(SALEM, Ore.) - A task force comprising area stakeholders considering the Salem River Crossing Project will meet from 5:30 to 8:30 PM on Wednesday, October 17th and again on Wednesday, October 24th at Pringle Hall, 606 Church Street SE in Salem. The Task Force will discuss the results of the evaluation for the 13 recommended crossing alternatives. The evaluation includes factors such as residential and business impacts, congestion relief and cost. Task force meetings are open to the public and include time for public comment. The Salem River Crossing Project is being conducted by the City of Salem and ODOT to develop solutions for crossing the Willamette River in the Salem-Keizer metropolitan area that meet transportation needs, are compatible with the built and natural environments and have broad community and regional support. The project will build on results of previous studies and will include development of an environmental impact statement (EIS) and a funding strategy to move any identified solutions toward implementation. The task force of 21 citizens was appointed by the City of Salem and ODOT to help develop recommendations for river crossing solutions. Members of the task force include leaders of neighborhood and civic groups on both sides of the river, public agency staff and representatives of stakeholder interest groups.
