(UPDATE) Police Pursuit Leads to Injury CrashSalem-News.comDeputies from the Marion County Sheriff's Office are currently investigating the incident.
(SALEM, Ore.) - Deputies in Marion County say they attempted to stop a stolen vehicle in the 4400 block of State Street in Salem at 11:00 AM. Lieutenant Jason Myers says the stolen vehicle attempted to elude deputies and after a very short pursuit collided with two vehicles at the intersection of State Street and Lancaster Drive. Medics were called to the crash scene and transported the driver of the stolen van along with a driver of one of the involved vehicles. The driver of the stolen vehicle has been identified as 26-year old Javier Esparza of Salem Oregon. Esparza was driving a 2004 silver colored Dodge caravan which was a confirmed stolen through the Stayton Police Department. Esparza was injured in the crash and was transported to the Salem Hospital where he has been admitted for observation. The driver of the other vehicles involved in the crash have been identified as 36-year old Richard Wagoner of Salem Oregon and 60-year old Daniel Bustos of the Dalles Oregon. Wagoner was driving a 1995 brown Ford Explorer. Wagoner was initially transported to the Salem Hospital and was later transferred to a Portland Area hospital by Lifefilght with serious injuries. Daniel Bustos was driving a 2004 gray colored Mercedes and was not injured in the crash. Deputies from the Marion County Sheriff's Office CRASH team are currently investigating the incident.
