(MEDFORD, Ore.) - Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Friday morning's single vehicle fatal traffic crash on Highway 238 about three miles southwest of Jacksonville. Preliminary investigation indicates the 58-year old Medford man may have had a medical problem prior to driving off the highway and colliding into a large tree.

According to OSP Sergeant Tanya Henderson, today at approximately 10:23 a.m. a 1984 Ford pickup driven by Willis Holmes, age 58, from Medford, was westbound on Highway 238 near milepost 30 when it traveled off the right side of the highway and collided head-on with a tree. Holmes was not using safety restraints and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigating troopers completed next of kin notification.

At the scene of the crash, Highway 238 is a straight stretch and the pavement was dry.

ODOT, Jackson County Sheriff's Department, Applegate Fire District 9, and A-1 Towing assisted at the scene.
