(McMINNVILLE, Ore. ) - A bicycle collided with a Freighliner tractor/trailer today on a common thoroughfare in McMinnville, Oregon.
At approximately 09:30 a.m., McMinnville Police and Fire Department personnel responded to a reported Auto versus Bicyclist collision on NW Hill Road near NW Horizon Drive in McMinnville.
Bicyclist Richard Barrett, a 67 year old resident of Corvallis, Oregon, was riding a bicycle southbound on the west shoulder of NW Hill Road. 33-year old Kasey Kauer, from Amity, was also southbound on NW Hill Road operating a 1993 Freightliner tractor pulling a low-boy trailer with an agricultural spray rig secured to the deck.
Based upon initial investigation, it appears that the trailered spray rig collided with Mr. Barrett as the tractor-trailer passed. Mr. Barnett was wearing a helmet which was split by the impact and likely significantly reduced the level of injuries he sustained.
Mr. Barrett received on scene care from McMinnville Fire Department EMS personnel. Mr. Barrett was transported via ambulance to Willamette Valley Medical Center for initial evaluation.
After initial medical evaluation, Mr. Barrett was transferred to Oregon Health Sciences University Hospital via Life Flight Network helicopter, and he is currently listed in serious condition.
No citations were issued at the scene. The incident remains under investigation by the McMinnville Police Department. If you should have any information in relation to the incident, contact Officer Steve Macartney at (503)434-7307.
