(SALEM) - Salem Police are releasing more information about a man who was found dead in car Wednesday in the parking lot of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, located at 570 Madison St N.E. Salem Police Lt. Bill Kohlmeyer says an autopsy performed today in Portland at the State Medical Examiners Office reveals that the man died of a gunshot wound to the head.

The case is now being investigated as a murder. The number of wounds and their location is not being revealed at this time, according to Kohlmeyer. The man has tentatively been identified as a 61 year old man from the Portland area. His identity is not being released at this time because we have not located his next of kin. According to police, it does not appear at this time that he was connected with the church in any way. Anyone with information on this case should contact Salem Police Detective Dan Tallan at 503-588-6050 ext 7132.
