Governor Orders Flags at Half-Staff in Honor of Patriot DaySalem-News.comPatriot Day occurs on September 11th of each year, in memory of the nearly three thousand who died in the September 11th, 2001 attacks.
(SALEM, Ore. ) - Today Governor Ted Kulongoski ordered all flags at public institutions be flown at half-staff throughout Oregon on Tuesday, September 11th, in observance of Patriot Day. Initially, the day was called the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance for the Victims Of the Terrorist Attacks. President Bush also asks Americans to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 A.M. (Eastern Daylight Time) marking the first plane crash on Sept. 11, 2001. “As we reflect on the events of six years ago, we remember the innocent people who lost their lives on that terrible day,” said Governor Kulongoski. “As Oregonians, we stand more united today and we reach out to our fellow citizens during this period of grief and remembrance.” Related
