(NEWBERG) - The second-largest freshman class in George Fox University history helped the university this fall set a record for traditional undergraduate enrollment. The university’ traditional undergraduate population grew to 1,633, up three percent from last year. George Fox’s overall enrollment is 3,185, the second largest in school history. Last year, the university enrolled a record 3,210. The university has enjoyed dramatic growth since 1986, when 549 students attended. The university expanded on-campus housing this summer with the construction of the $7.4 million Le Shana Residence Hall. About 1,100 undergraduates live in residence halls and university-owned apartments and houses. The university this summer also completed a $4.1 million renovation of Hoover Academic Building to add classroom space and facilities for the new nursing program. The 417 students in the freshmen class come from 19 states and four countries. Twenty-two percent are from non-Caucasian ethnic backgrounds. The majors most popular among freshmen are elementary education, business, nursing, engineering and biology. Including the degree-completion students in the School of Professional Studies, the university has enrolled a record 1,873 undergraduates. Graduate student enrollment is 1,312. Fall semester for traditional undergraduates began Aug. 28th.
