OSP Investigating Highway 99E CrashSalem-News.com
(OREGON CITY) - Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into a critical injury crash Monday afternoon on Highway 99E just north of the Interstate 205 overpass. The southbound lanes of Highway 99E were restricted to one lane for about 3 hours during the investigation.
According to OSP Trooper Ted Moisan, on September 27, 2010 at approximately 3:35 p.m. a 2004 Mazda van driven by Melanie Miekey, age 31, from Canby, was stopped for a red stop light southbound on Highway 99E just north of the Interstate 205 overpass. A 2003 Harley Davidson operated by Harla Jane Lakin, age 55, from Oregon City, crashed into the back of the van ejecting LAKIN over the top of the van and onto the roadway.
Harla Lakin was critically injured and transported to Oregon Health Sciences University for treatment. She was wearing a protective helmet.
Melanie Miekey was transported by ambulance to Willamette Falls Hospital with minor injuries where she was treated and released. She was using safety restraints.
The investigation is looking into witness information that Lakin's attention was distracted and she didn't see traffic stopped ahead of her.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Clackamas Fire District #1 firefighters.
