Police: Skull Found at Logging Site Not Brooke WilbergerSalem-News.comThe skull was found by loggers working on Forest Service Road 1726 near east Devils Lake Road just outside Lincoln City.
(LINCOLN CITY) - A human skull found by loggers working on Forest Service Road 1726 near east Devils Lake Road is that of a 15 to 25 year old male who apparently hung himself, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s office. The Lincoln County Medical Examiner says they ran through evidence found by investigators, and believe the young man committed suicide. His name has not yet been released. When the skull was initially found, there was media speculation that it might be that of missing BYU student Brooke Wilberger, who disappeared from a Corvallis apartment complex near OSU in 2004. What raised the media’s suspicion that the remains could have been those of Wilberger is the fact that her alleged killer, Joel Courtney was scheduled to be in a Newport courtroom to face a drunk driving charge the day Wilberger disappeared. Courtney called the court clerk and told her that he could not make his court appearance because he was in Corvallis.
