SALEM - Sophomore second baseman Pat Bailey tied the George Fox University single-game record with three doubles and was one of five teammates to have three hits in the game as the Bruins whipped the Corban College Warriors 17-4 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday afternoon at Warrior Field.

Bailey tied the GFU record when he doubled down the right-field line to drive in a run in the 2nd, doubled to right-center to lead off the 6th, and doubled to left-center to drive in a run later in the inning and cap a seven-run outburst.

He joined Ryan LeBreton vs. Western Oregon and Matt Saltmarsh vs. Whitman in 1998, and Bo Thunell vs. Whitman on March 11th this season, as Bruins with three doubles in a game.

Bailey, who scored three times in the game, has 18 doubles on the season and is only three away from the single-season record of 21 by Mark Tyler in 1999.

Also collecting three hits each in the Bruins’ 22-hit attack, which tied their most in a game this season, were Drew Johnson, Daniel Downs, Matt Wyckoff, and Josh Burch.

Johnson scored two and drove in two, Downs had a triple with three runs scored and three RBI, Wyckoff doubled twice, scored twice, and knocked in three, and Burch had a triple, two runs, and two RBI.

The Bruins opened the game with three in the 1st against Jordan Emery (3-7) as Downs singled in two runs and Wyckoff doubled in another.

The Warriors got two of those back in the home half on consecutive singles by Jamie McGraw, Ryan Heil, and Craig Spicer for one run, and a sacrifice fly by Brent Timmerman for another, but GFU southpaw Chris Albrecht (8-2) settled down after that, allowing only two more hits with three strikeouts in his three innings of work. The Bruins used six pitchers and the Warriors seven.

The Bruins added two more in the 2nd on one of Bailey’s doubles and an RBI single by Bryan Donohue, but the Warriors closed within 5-4 with a pair of runs in the 4th, one of them unearned, off Shane Dalgleish.

The Bruins broke it open with four runs on five hits in the 5th and seven runs on seven hits in the 6th.

Heil, Spicer, and Jeremy Frantz had two hits apiece for half of the Warriors’ 12 hits, but Bruin hurlers held the home team in check by striking out eight and walking only one.

Dalgleish, Brady Rhodes, Drew Johnson, Kyle Johnson, and Nick Hedgecock each worked a scoreless inning from the 5th through the 9th innings for the Bruins.

The George Fox bullpen this season is 4-0 with six saves and a 3.14 ERA.

George Fox, now 22-5 after three straight wins, returns to Northwest Conference action this weekend with a three-game set against Pacific University.

The Bruins and Boxers will meet Saturday in a noon doubleheader and a 1:00 PM single on Sunday, all at Pacific’s “home away from home” at Hillsboro Stadium.

Corban, now 10-22-1, returns to NAIA Region I play against the University of British Columbia Friday at 3:00 PM at Nat Bailey Stadium in Vancouver, B.C.
