SACRAMENTO - Jason Stokes hit a grand slam and finished with five RBIs, and Jason Windsor pitched 7 2/3 strong innings to lead the Sacramento River Cats to a 9-1 victory over the Portland Beavers Tuesday night at Raley Field. Stokes, batting eighth and 0-for-6 going into the game, was 2-for-3, adding a walk and a run scored. His grand slam to left field off Tim Stauffer in the fifth inning gave Sacramento (3-3) a commanding 9-0 lead. Windsor, meanwhile, limited the Beavers (3-3) to three hits over the first seven innings before the Beavers were finally able to get a run against him prior to his departure in the eighth. Windsor (1-0) struck out four and ended his second start with one run and five hits allowed. Daric Barton had two hits, two walks and two runs scored for the River Cats, who went up 5-0 after a four-run third inning. Brian Stavisky was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Portland starter Jack Cassel (0-1) allowed five runs (four earned) and seven hits in four innings, struck out three and gave up four walks in his second start. Just two games remain before the Beavers’ home opener against the Fresno Grizzlies at PGE Park on Friday. The Beavers and River Cats play Wednesday at 11:35 AM and wrap up the series Thursday at 7:05 PM. Stokes’ RBI single that scored Stavisky opened the scoring in the second inning. The River Cats sent eight men to the plate in the third and tacked on four more on a two-run single from Kurt Suzuki and a single by Stavisky that resulted in two more runs. The Beavers scored in the top of the eighth when Adam Shabala singled, got to third on a ground-rule double by Vince Sinisi, and scored on an RBI groundout by Royce Huffman.
