McMINNVILLE - Willamette University took second place at the Linfield Invitational on Wednesday, as the Bearcats shot 324 for 18 holes at the Michelbook Country Club. Linfield College won the tournament with a team score of 305, while Corban College took third at 329. All three teams had at least one golfer post a score in the 70's. Linfield gained the edge with six golfers below 80, including all four athletes counting toward the Wildcats' team score. Matt Taylor of Linfield won medalist honors with a 74 and his teammates took the next four places. Kyle Henderson tooks econd with a 76, Kevin Duerr and Drew Fogg tied for third at 77 and Andrew Fitch took fifth with a 78. Willamette's Ben Bryant, Nick Schroeder of Corban and Tyler Nelson of Linfield tied for sixth place at 79. Bryant shot 43 on the front nine, but tied for the third-lowest score among all 20 golfers on the back nine. Only Henderson, who carded a 34, and Schroeder, who shot 35, did better than Bryant over the final nine holes. Bryant was matched on the back nine by Fogg, who also registered a 36. Other scores counting toward Willamette's team total were earned by Robbie Beard, Grant Leslie and Shane Adversalo. Beard recorded an 80 (42-38) and Leslie achieved an 81 (41-40). Adversal finished the round in 84 strokes (41-43). Also competing for Willamette were Tyler Robinson, who shot 91 (46-45), and Pete Hayward, who shot 93 (51-42). The next tournament involving Willamette is the Corban Invitational on Monday, April 16th at the Elkorn Golf Club in Elkhorn, Ore. Tee times are scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM. The Bearcats will then compete at the Northwest Conference Championship scheduled for April 22nd (36 holes) and April 23rd (18 holes) at Tokatee Golf Club in Blue River, Ore.
