No. 12 Washington Downs Vikings, 6-1

PORTLAND - No. 12 Washington capitalized on five Portland State errors and junior right-hander Caitlin Noble struck out 14 in the Huskies’ 6-1 win over the Vikings Thursday evening at Erv Lind Stadium.

Noble (10-3) scattered six hits and worked around four walks in going the distance.

Junior shortstop Ashley Charters went 2-for-5 and senior shortstop Nicole Moojen was 2-for-3 to lead Washington’s 10-hit attack. Charters had an RBI single in the second to open the scoring.

Freshman Amanda Fleischman hit a pinch-hit home run, her first of the season, to provide the 6-1 final.

Freshman right-hander Janice Damo (0-4) suffered the loss. She allowed six runs, only one earned, on 10 hits and four walks, while striking out five.

Junior left fielder Stephanie Bean and senior center fielder Kimi Daniel each had two hits to lead Portland State. Daniel drove in the Vikings’ lone run with an RBI single in the fifth to cut Washington’s lead to 4-1.

The Huskies broke open a 1-0 lead by scoring three runs off three Viking errors in the third to extend the lead to 4-0.

Portland State will return to action this weekend when the Vikings travel to Moraga, Calif., to open a four-game Pacific Coast Softball Conference series against Saint Mary’s (CA) with a doubleheader Saturday at noon.
