Warriors fall to NAIA`s Top Ranked Lewis-Clark State College, 10-1

Seven players register a hit each in opening game of three-game series under the lights.

LEWISTON, IDAHO - The Clash of the Titans changed its name to Clash of the Warriors when Corban`s baseball team went head-to-head with the NAIA`s top ranked Lewis-Clark State College.

Unfortunately for the Warriors from Corban, the host Warriors took round one, 10-1, as seven different Corban players collected a hit each in the opening game of a three-game series at Harris Field.

Corban scored its lone run of the game in the 1st inning when junior Ryan Heil (Medford, Ore.) singled with the bases loaded, scoring sophomore Ryan Porter (Keizer, Ore.) from third. With the bags still loaded, sophomore Darren Johnson (Vancouver, Wash.) flew out to right field and senior Brian Nelson (Lebanon, Ore.) was thrown out at home attempting to end the opening inning threat.

In its half of the 1st inning, Lewis-Clark State put the game away when the first eight batters reach base safely and roughed up freshman starter Jason Braun (Dallas, Ore.) for 7 runs (all earned) on 9 hits.

Braun shut down the nat on`s top-ranked team`s bats over the next three nn ngs before the host Warriors tacked on a pair of runs in the 5th inning via a pass ball and an RBI single by Paul Martin.

The 6-foot-4 Corban right hander lasted 6.0 innings, allowing 9 runs (8 earned) on 15 hits, while striking out 5 Lewis-Clark State batters. Sophomore reliever Derek Stokes (Anchorage, Alaska) took the ball for the final 2.0 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits.

Porter, Heil, junior Jeremy Frantz (Medford, Ore.), and senior Jesse Gaylord (Portland, Ore.) each collected singles, while Johnson, Nelson, and sophomore Jamie McGraw (Gaston, Ore.) registered doubles in the 4th, 7th, and 8th inning respectively for the seven total Corban hits.

Jose Castenon led Lewis-Clark State with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate, while scoring 2 runs and collecting 2 RBIs. Six different Warriors collected 2-or-more hits, as the NAIA`s top-ranked team registered 17 hits, including 14 singles.

With the loss, Corban falls to 8-21 overall, while Lewis-Clark State mproves to 31-3 overall. The Clask of the Warriors continues on Saturday, April 15th, when they meet n an afternoon double header beginning at 1:00 PM in Lew ston, Idaho.
