PORTLAND - Jack Cust hit two home runs and Justin Germano gave up one unearned run in seven innings of work as the Portland Beavers defeated the Fresno Grizzlies 6-1 Saturday afternoon at PGE Park. Vince Sinisi had three this, including his first Triple-A home run, and Craig Stansberry was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI for the Beavers, who won two straight for the first time this season. It was the second strong outing for Germano, who gave up three hits and struck out three. He improved to 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA (1er, 12.0ip) after two starts. Matt Kinney surrendered five runs and 10 hits for the Grizzlies, who have lost three of their last four on the heels of a four-game winning streak. The Beavers (4-6) struck first in the second. Luis Cruz singled, moved to third on a single by Germano, and the Beavers took a 2-0 lead on RBI singles from Adam Shabala and Stansberry. Portland committed three errors that resulted in a run for Fresno (6-4) in the top of the third. Sinisi upped Portland’s lead to 4-1 on a home run to right with Cust aboard in the bottom of the third. Cust hit a solo home run in the fifth and added a second solo shot, his third homer in two games, two innings later. After going 0-for-17 over his first five games, Cust, who had three hits Saturday, is batting .474 (9-for-19) with three home runs over his last five contests. The Beavers play host to the Grizzlies again Sunday at PGE Park. First pitch is 2:05 PM.
