Vikings Win Nine Events at Willamette Invitational

SALEM - Facing local small college competition, Portland State athletes won nine events at the Willamette Invitational Saturday.

In total, the Vikings placed in the top three 26 different times.

Led by graduate student Amanda Kamm, PSU swept the women's 800-meter. Kamm ran a personal best time of two minutes, 12.65-seconds.

Kamm's time sits sixth on the Viking all-time records list.

Senior Staci Bielenberg came in second with a time of 2:16.79 and sophomore Adriane Wai was third with a time of 2:19.22.

Other first-place winners on the day included the Viking women's 4x400m relay (3:57.99), senior Judith Burnett in the women's shot put (41-feet, 8.75-inches), senior Brandon Lopez in the men's 400m (50.21), junior Antoinette Payne in the women's long jump (18-0.25), junior Caressa Sims in the women's hammer (158-3), junior Trevor Rollinger in the men's 400m hurdles (53.84), sophomore Nikolai Hristov in the men's triple jump (42-9) and freshman Nkeiru Ugwoaba in the women's triple jump (38-2.75).

Burnett took runner-up in the women's hammer with a personal best throw of 156-5 to top the list of other notable performances Saturday. Burnett's mark stands fourth on Portland State's records.

Portland State's men's 4x100m relay team came in second with a time of 42.13 to tie the team's best mark of 2007.

Sophomore Katy Parker placed third with a mark of 128-6 in the discus to top her previous personal best of 124-1 set last season.

Freshman Karissa Fuller also set a personal best and took third, recording a time of 4:55.46 in the 1,500m.

Fuller had a 5:02.29 best in the event at the Willamette Mini-Meet, the opening meet of the outdoor season.

Portland State next competes at the Oregon Invitational next Saturday in Eugene, Ore.
