VANCOUVER, B.C. - Junior Doug Gausepohl drove in a pair of RBIs on Sunday, as Corban's baseball team concluded its three-game series with British Columbia with the Warriors being handed an 11-2 loss by the host Thunderbirds at Nat Bailey Stadium.

Playing in their first Sunday game of the season, the Warriors fell victim to a hot-scoring Thunderbird offense that capped off a three-game sweep with today's victory.

British Columbia outscored Corban by 24 runs (27-3) in the weekend series, as the Thunderbirds continue to hold off Cascade Collegiate Conference front-runner Albertson for second place in Region I.

Keeping with the series trend, the T-birds scored in the first inning again, this time tallying three runs highlighted by a two-run homer from Jon Syrnyk, who had three triples in the opener on Saturday.

Corban senior starter Brett Timmerman’s day came to an end after just two innings of work when UBC scored five runs in the bottom of the second.

The big blow came off the bat of Fletcher Vynne, who had ten RBIs in the series, when he hit a bases-clearing double to left center on a full count. That made the score 8-2 and Corban never really threatened after that.

Syrnyk continued to be poison for the Warrior pitching staff. He wound up going 3-for-4 with three RBI and continued his solid offensive output of late.

Corban did all their scoring in the second inning when Gausepohl doubled to right field driving in a pair of runs.

UBC's lefty starter Andrew LaFleur moved to 4-2 on the season with five innings of work in which he allowed two runs on four hits with three K's.

With the big lead, UBC used three relievers to finish the game as Greg Chong, Scott Webster, and Brett Murray saw time on the mound and each pitched scoreless baseball.

A two-run third and another run in the sixth made for the 11-2 final score. Sean Everest, Nic Lendvoy, and Syrnyk all had multiple hits in the win.

With the loss, Corban is now 10-25-1 overall, 4-16 in Region I action.

Meanwhile, British Columbia improves to 14-11 on the season, 12-4 in Region I action. The Warriors return to action on Tuesday, April 17th, when Corban and NCAA Division III member and cross town rival Willamette continue play in the inaugural Capitol Cup.

The Warriors and Bearcats will meet in a single nine-inning affair beginning at 4:00 PM at John Lewis Field on the campus of Willamette University.

NOTE: If Willamette defeats Corban then the Bearcats will be awarded the inaugural Capitol Cup, but if the Warriors win then the three-game series will be tied at one game apiece with the tie breaking contest coming on Tuesday, April 24th, back at John Lewis Field beginning at 4:00 PM.
