PORTLAND - Portland State sophomore golfer Kayla Morinaga was named second team All-Big Sky Conference on Monday as the Vikings begin Conference Championship tournament play.

The Big Sky selected the teams, which included five players on the first team and five on the second team, based on GolfWeek player rankings.

Morinaga was a two-time Big Sky Player of the Week this year and leads the Vikings in scoring average.

Her 78.2 strokes per round is a two-stroke improvement over her freshman year. Morinaga has also set personal bests this year for 18-hole (69), 36-hole (152) and 54-hole (225) scores.

The Vikings are competing in the Big Sky Conference Championship at the Palm Valley Golf Club, beginning today. The tournament is a three-day, 54-hole event.

PSU won the Big Sky title in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

PSU was picked fifth in the 2006-07 Big Sky's preseason coaches poll.

The Vikings ranked fourth in scoring average (317.5) during the course of the season.

Competing this week for the Vikings are Morinaga, senior Ashley Anast, and freshmen Justine Hix, Danielle Ranallo and Hannah Bews.
