TEMPE, Ariz. - Senior Sherina Galvan belted a second inning home run to spark the Beaver offense as the No. 13 ranked Oregon State softball team shutout No. 7 Arizona State by a 2-0 score on Saturday night.

Galvan hit a 2-out line drive blast over the right center field fence to give the Beavers (34-14; 6-4 Pac-10) a 1-0 advantage in the top of the second.

Arizona State (41-11; 7-4 Pac-10) got runners on-base in each of the first six innings but was unable to capitalize.

Oregon State senior pitcher Ta'Tyana McElroy (12-6) struck out four batters and scattered six hits over the game’s first five innings.

Fellow senior Brianne McGowan entered the game in the sixth with a pair of runners on base but got three straight outs and went on to earn her fourth save of the year.

McGowan’s save was the 12th of her career, moving the Reno, NV native into a tie for first place in the OSU all-time record book with Monica Hoffman (2001-04).

The Beavers put an insurance run on the board in the top of the fifth inning.

Senior Natalie Johnson opened the frame with an infield single and then recorded her team-leading 17th stolen base of the season just pitches later.

After moving to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Mia Longfellow, Johnson scored on a squeeze play as freshman Dani Chisholm placed a bunt back to ASU ace Katie Burkhart (23-9).

Oregon State picked up hits from six different batters on the night and handed the Sun Devils just their second loss (23-2) in Tempe this season.
