WOODBURN - The Woodburn Dragstrip celebrated the 4th annual Tulip Festival Drag Race on April 22nd and April 23rd. 261 racers joined in for the racing and festivities. The Tulip Festival drags featured Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman, Motorcycle, Pro Nostalgia and A/Fuel Dragster cars. In the Super Pro division Bob Schmidt of Silverton Oregon took the top spot in a 1940 Willys PU with an elapsed time of 9.88 at 124.68 miles per hour. Katie Nelson of Hayden Idaho was the runner up in a 96 dragster with an elapsed time of 8.40 at 155.33 miles per hour. In the Pro series, Curt Landis of Newberg Oregon took first place in a 1969 Chevelle with a time of 10.648 and 124.74 mph. Mike Hansen of Aurora Oregon was the runner up in a 1967 Camaro with a time of 11.300 at 118.89 mph. The top spot in the Sportsman series went to Robert Classen of Portland Oregon in a 1992 Mustang. His time was 14.604 at 95.27 mph. The runner up was Derrick Jackson of McMinnville Oregon in a 2001 ford with a time of 18.117 at 72.50 mph. In the Motorcycle category top honors went to Jeff Marsh of Woodburn Oregon with his 1995 Kawasaki. His time was 9.041 at 137.34 mph. The runner up was Eric Robinson out of Eugene Oregon with a time of 8.339 at 154.47 mph with his 1999 Kawasaki. The winner of the Pro Nostalgia category was Spud Miller from Philomath Oregon in a 1969 dragster. The elapsed time was 7.558 at 175.81 mph. In the A/Fuel Dragster Match Race Darrell Heard from Portland Oregon took the top spot with an elapsed time of 7.457 at 201.25 mph. Second place in this category went to Mike Floyd of Battle Ground Washington with a time of 7.497 at 185.75 mph. On Saturday April 29th, the Woodburn dragstrip will feature the Les Schwab and Toyo Tires Sport Compact Series and Jr. Dragsters. On Sunday April 30th, 2006 the dragstrip will feature VP Racing Fuel Championship Series—Land of the Leaders Challenge #1
