Good News for the NFL

GREEN BAY - This is the news Green Bay Packer fans have been waiting months for. Brett Favre will indeed return for another year as starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers. This will be Favre¹s 15th year with the Packers, and that is good news for the NFL.

Why should the NFL be happy? Why is Brett Favre so well liked by his fans?

Is it the fact that Brett has had a stellar career? Brett Favre holds the record among NFL quarterbacks with a start streak of 221, and is on the cusp of breaking many NFL passing records including the chase to take Dan Marino¹s record of most career touchdown passes. Brett Favre is already the holder of almost all of the passing record in Packers history, so the fans love him for that.

But is there more to it than Brett's statistics?

As NFL fans have watched Brett Favre's career they also have been along for his personal ups and downs. Fans have seen prescription drug issues, family tragedy and illness, even family ties to hurricane Katrina. Sometimes this seemed a little over the top, as if Brett were the NFL¹s "golden boy." Most fans did not seem to mind, really who could not respect a man who left his career decision in the hands of his wife who was battling an illness? (She wanted him to keep playing).

Many NFL fans get behind Brett Farve for all of the reasons listed above.

Through it all, Brett Farve is a quarterback for the history books and on top of it a nice guy.

The Green Bay Packers are lucky to have him back on the team this year. This season will definitely be better as a result. Hopefully, they will utilize Brett Favre in this later part of his career to begin passing down his wisdom to continue the football legacy. And hopefully, they won¹t forget about the nice guy thing either.
