ELLENSBURG, Wash.— - Western Oregon`s Bridget Johnson set a personal best in the 100 hurdles, helping to propel her to a first-day lead in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference heptathlon championships, hosted by Central Washington University. Johnson, who placed sixth at the 2005 NCAA Division II national championships, had a four-event total of 3,076 points, a 150-point lead over Seattle Pacific`s Kelsey Cooley, who has 2,924 points. Cooley`s teammate Linda Blake is just back of her in third at 2,974. The final three events will be held on Tuesday. Johnson, a senior from Portland (David Douglas HS) clocked 14.74 in the 100 hurdles, just a fraction behind Cooley has broke the tape at 14.72. Johnson`s time ranks fourth all-time in that event at WOU. In fact, WOU`s other two competitors in the event also notched personal bests in the short hurdle race, with Nini Callan coming in at 15.17 and Jacque Postlewait registering 15.20. Postlewait sits in fifth place with 2,726 points, and Callan is seventh at 2,518. Johnson easily outdistanced the field in the shot put with a heave of 42-3 ¼ , with Callan the next closest competitor at 35-10 ¾. Johnson was also third in the 200 meters (26.32), second in the high jump (5-2 ¼), and was second in the 100 hurdles.
