Douglas leads Warriors to ninth place after Day One

The 11-team field will conclude the 54-hole tournament tomorrow -- Tuesday, May 1st -- with eighteen holes to decide the Region I champion and automatic berth to the 2007 NAIA Championships in Olathe, Kansas.

CHRISTINA LAKES, B.C. - Junior Wade Douglas (Ontario, Ore.) opened the 2007 NAIA Region I Tournament with a two-round total of 7-over 149, including a school-record 1-under 70, as Corban's men's golf team sits in ninth place after Day One at Christina Lakes Golf Course.

After the opening day, Douglas put together a pair of rounds in the 70s, including a school-record 1-under 70 after the first eighteen. Over the closing eighteen, Douglas ended the afternoon with an 8-over 79 for his 36-hole total of 7-over 149 and sits ten strokes behind the tournament leader, Jade Dennill of the University of Victoria.

Along with Douglas, freshman Nicholas Schroeder (Silverton, Ore.) carded scores of 8-over 79 and 5-over 76 and sits second on the team with a combined score of 13-over 155. Sophomore Nathan Furumasu (Gladstone, Ore.) turned in scores of 8-over 79 and 7-over 78 to sit two strokes behind Schroeder with a 36-hole score of 15-over 157. Meanwhile, junior Josh Greenslade (Spokane, Wash.) and freshman Jonathan McGuire (Canby, Ore.) rounded out the Warrior scoring, as Greenslade shot 18-hole scores of 6-over 77 and 12-over 83 for a combined total of 18-over 160 and McGuire fired scores of 15-over 86 and 17-over 88 for a 36-hole total of 35-over194.

As a team, the Warriors turned in a school-record 21-over 305 after the opening round before falling off a bit over the final eighteen of the day with a 32-over 316 for a combined 36-hole total of 53-over 621. University of British Columbia leads after the opening day with a combined team score of 4-over 572, while the University of Victoria sits in second place just a mere stroke behind the Thunderbirds.
