Douglas Posts One-Under 70 After First Eighteen to Lead Corban

As a team, the Warriors turned in the best score in the four-year history of the golf program and trails Frontier Conference member Westminster College (Utah) by three strokes for seventh place.

CHRISTINA LAKES, British Columbia - Junior Wade Douglas (Ontario, Ore.) posted a school-record 1-under 70, as Corban's men's golf team shot the best 18-hole score in program history en route to turning in an opening round total of 21-over 305 and sits eighth after the 1st round of the 2007 NAIA Region I Tournament on Monday morning at Christina Lakes Golf Course in the Canadian province of British Columbia.

Douglas, who currently lead the Warriors in scoring average, fired a team low score on the par 71 track in the province of British Columbia and trails the first round leader, James Roxburgh of the University of British Columbia, by four strokes heading into the final eighteen holes of day one.

Along with Douglas, fellow junior Josh Greenslade (Spokane, Wash.) carded a score of 6-over 77 with freshman Nicholas Schroeder (Silverton, Ore.) and sophomore Nathan Furumasu (Gladstone, Ore.) turning in identical scores of 7-over 79 to round out the team scoring for Corban. Freshman Jonathan McGuire (Canby, Ore.) did not have his score count in the team total, but fired an opening round 14-over 86.

The University of British Columbia leads after the opening round with a combined team score of 4-under 280, while the University of Victoria sits in second place just a mere stroke behind the Thunderbirds. The 11-team field will continue the first day of competition with another eighteen holes this afternoon and evening to complete the opening day of 36 holes before concluding the tournament tomorrow -- Tuesday, May 1st -- with eighteen holes to decide the Region I champion.
