Apr-07-2007 21:38Warriors - Beacons Split Softball DoubleheaderSalem-News.com SPORTSWith the split, the Warriors hold a 4-26-1 overall record.
SALEM - Junior Lindsay Batey smacked her team-leading eighth home run of the season on a three-run shot in Saturday's night cap, helping lead Corban's softball team in a non-conference double header split with the Beacons of Northwest Christian, 3-7 & 6-5. In the opener, both junior Laura Santie and freshman Jessica Pierce went 2-for-3 from the plate, while the latter brought in a RBI to lead the Warriors offensively. Batey and Santie scored runs in the fourth inning and sophomore Rachel Steigleman scored after reaching base on a single in the final inning, but the Warriors were unable to complete their comeback. Corban’s junior right hander Kelley Seaton pitched for 0.1 innings before an injury had her replaced by sophomore Karlee Sisler who threw three strikeouts and gave up just two runs (one earned). The Beacons' pitching staff split innings between Megan McLearn (6.0 innings) and Jillian Wyatt (1.0) innings, who tallied a combined nine strikeouts and together gave up seven hits. Along with featuring Batey’s team-leading 18th RBI of the season on her fifth inning home run, the night cap also showed freshman Kacie Emerick put in a 3-for-4 performance at the plate and Sisler hit 2-for-3 with a game-winning RBI. Batey’s home run moves her to 3rd all-time in Warrior softball history for single season (8) and career (10) home runs. Sisler remained in the circle for the entire 7.0 innings of the second game, while registering two strike outs against 31 batters. Her counterparts, the Beacons' Wyatt and Heather Cordell, combined to allow nine hits while recording seven strikeouts. On the day, Brittany Robles hit 5-for-7 with two RBIs to lead the Beacons offensively in the two games. With the split, the Warriors hold a 4-26-1 overall record. Northwest Christian, on the other hand, has an overall record of 10-21. Corban will travel to La Grande next Friday, April 13th, when the Warriors face Eastern Oregon University in a pair of conference contests beginning at 2:00 PM.
