Volcanoes Drop Ems Again, 4-1

Salem-Keizer has won three straight over the Emeralds.

KEIZER, Ore. - Chad Rothford went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Salem-Keizer past visiting Eugene, 4-1, on Tuesday.

Rothford ripped an RBI double in the first inning and a run-scoring single in the fifth before doubling again in the eighth.

The 22-year-old first baseman is 18-for-46 (.391) with three homers and 15 RBIs over his last 11 games for the Volcanoes (33-8), who've won three straight over the Emeralds (25-16).

Reliever Daryl Maday (4-1) picked up the win, scattering two hits with two strikeouts in three scoreless innings. Daniel Otero worked a perfect ninth for his Northwest League-leading 13th save.

Starter Waldis Joaquin allowed a run on four hits, fanning two and walking one over four frames.

Eugene's Aeden McQueary lined an RBI single in the fourth and Luis Durango singled in his final at-bat to extend his hitting streak to a league season-high 19 games and his on-base streak to 29 games.

Emeralds starter Jeremy McBryde (1-3) yielded two runs -- one earned -- on three hits and two walks while striking out five in 3 1/3 innings.
