PULLMAN, Wash. - The Oregon State women’s soccer team was one second away from its first victory of the season, but UNLV tied the game at 89:59 and the two teams settled for a 1-1 tie at the WSU Cougar Classic on Sunday afternoon.

OSU freshman Melissa Peck scored her first collegiate goal in the first half to give OSU a 1-0 lead, and it stayed that way until the very end of regulation, when UNLV’s Brie Kuhne put one in from eight yards away with just one second left on the clock.

“It’s obviously disappointing to give up a goal in that fashion,” OSU Coach Steve Fennah said. “I can’t the fault the players because they battled and left it all out on the field. It was a typical early-season performance, in terms of the quality not always being there. It was definitely a step ahead of Friday, however (a 2-1 loss to Gonzaga). There were a number of positives, but we’re disappointed to not get the win.”

The Oregon State goal came in the 25th minute. Junior forward Jodie Taylor sent in a cross from the right side, and it was headed in by Peck at the far post.

UNLV (0-1-1), a 2005 NCAA Tournament team, was outshot by the Beavers 4-1 in the 20 minutes of overtime, though no more goals were scored. OSU had a 15-14 advantage on shots for the entire game.
