Aug-28-2006 20:01Horn Sets Single Match Digs Record at Region I ChallengeSalem-News.com SPORTSThe Warriors will be next in action on Friday when they kick off conference action at Eastern Oregon beginning at 7:00 PM in La Grande.
LEWISTON, Idaho - Despite a single match digs record of 49 for junior libero Becky Horn versus Lewis-Clark State, Corban's women's volleyball team seemed to struggle offensively at the 2006 NAIA Region I Challenge this weekend. The Warriors opened on Friday showing no ill effects offensively thanks to a 3-0 (30-19, 32-30, 30-15) sweep of Frontier Conference member Montana State-Northern. Sophomore Jamie McGraw suited up for the first time as a member of Corban's volleyball program and guided the offense with 17 assists, while anchoring the defense with 12 digs. Fellow sophomore Chelsea Reeher continued where she left off last season with a team-high 12 kills, while seniors Hallie Hofferd and Nina Clanton tallied 8 kills and 4 service aces respectively. As a team, the Warriors compiled 12 service aces to hold the Skylights at bay during the match. In their second match, Corban ran into a tough opponent in Rocky Mountain College and fell in 3 games (28-30, 23-30, 24-30). McGraw paced the Warriors with a team-high 9 kills and 19 assists, while tallying 12 digs. Horn anchored Corban's back line with a team-high 23 digs, while Reeher and junior Ashley Lange recorded 8 and 7 kills respectively. On Saturday, Corban opened the day against tournament-host Lewis-Clark State and fought valiently in the first two games before recording back-to-back negative hitting games en route to a 3-1 loss (29-31, 30-26, 21-30, 21-30). Hofferd led the Warriors with 15 kills, while Clanton and Reeher added 14 and 7 respectively. McGraw guided Corban's attack with a team-high 29 assists, while Horn broke her own school record with a match-high 49 digs. In their final match of the weekend, Corban looked sluggish during the first two games, as they recorded back-to-back .000 hitting percentages en route to a 3-1 loss (17-30, 16-30, 30-26, 21-30) to Carroll College. Hofferd paced the Warrior attack once again with 13 kills, while Reeher and McGraw added 10 and 8 respectively. Freshman Amy Thompson guided Corban's attack with a match-high 22 assists, while Horn continued to anchor the Warrior back line with a match-high 28 digs. Overall this weekend, Hofferd paced Corban's offensive attack with 40 kills (avg. 2.86), while McGraw guided the offense with 80 assists (avg. 5.71), and Horn anchored the back line with 113 digs (avg. 8.07). Corban finished the tournament 1-3, which was third best among Cascade Collegiate Conference schools.
