Ems Drop Volcanoes, 11-7

KEIZER, Ore. - Justin Pickett's three-run homer sparked a seven-run fifth inning as visiting Eugene topped Salem-Keizer, 11-7, on Thursday.

After Pickett drilled his eighth homer, Justin Baum belted a two-run shot, Yefri Carvajal lined an RBI double and Andrew Parrino added a run-scoring single to give the Emeralds an 8-1 advantage.

Keoni Ruth ripped a two-run homer in the eighth and an RBI double in the ninth for Eugene (25-17), which halted a four-game losing streak.

Starter John Hussey (4-1) allowed a run on four hits in five innings to win his second straight decision. He struck out nine and walked two.

Colt Hynes gave up a hit and struck out three in 1 1/3 frames for his second save.

The first-place Volcanoes cut the deficit to 8-6 with five runs in the sixth, highlighted by Matt Downs' two-run double.

Garret Baker added an RBI single in the eighth for Salem-Keizer (34-8), which had its four-game winning streak snapped.

Salem-Keizer starter Ricky Bauer (2-1) surrendered five runs -- four earned -- on seven hits in four innings. He struck out three and did not walk a batter.
