Oregon State Punter Kyle Loomis Leaves Program

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State University starting punter Kyle Loomis has elected to leave the program for personal reasons, Beaver head coach Mike Riley announced following the first practice of fall on Friday.

Loomis started last season as a true-freshman, averaging 41. 3 yards per punt.

The Roseburg (Ore.) High School graduate was named to the Sporting News Third Team All-American squad following the season.

Senior placekicker Alexis Serna, the 2005 Lou Groza Award winner, is expected to take on the punting duties for the immediate future.

Riley also announced that senior running back Clinton Polk, sophomore running back Micah Strickland and junior linebacker Eric Moala Liava’a – all reserves – are currently not on the active roster.

Oregon State continues preparation for the 2007 season on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Tommy Prothro Football Complex.

The 2007 season opener is Thurs., Aug. 30 against the Utah Utes at Reser Stadium. The game will be televised live by FSN Northwest beginning at 7 p.m.
