Cano, Crawford Share AL Player of the Week Honors

This marks the second weekly award for Cano this season, having shared honors with Crawford's teammate, B.J. Upton, just two weeks ago.

NEW YORK - New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano and Tampa Bay Devil Rays outfielder Carl Crawford have been named American League Co-Players of the Week for the period ending August 5th.

Crawford hit .591 (13-22) with a double, three home runs and six RBI.

The two-time A.L. All-Star posted a 1.045 slugging percentage and scored eight runs. During a three-game series vs. the Toronto Blue Jays from July 30th-August 1st, Crawford went 5-for-8 with two home runs and three RBI.

He went 8-for-14 with a home run and three RBI against the Orioles from August 3rd-5th. The outfielder is hitting .303 with nine home runs and 60 RBI.

This is his second career weekly award, having shared honors with Tigers hurler Justin Verlander for the week ending May 29, 2006.

Cano posted a .478 batting average (11-23) with a 1.087 slugging percentage and a .556 on-base percentage.

He hit three doubles, a triple and three home runs while scoring nine runs and collecting nine runs batted in. On July 31st, he went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI against the Chicago White Sox at Yankee Stadium.

In a game against the Kansas City Royals on August 4th, Cano went 4-for-5 with three RBI.

For the season, the second baseman is batting .309 with 11 home runs and 63 RBI.

Cano's teammates Bobby Abreu (.600, 1.050 SLG. 3 HR, 9 RBI) and Jorge Posada (.444, 1.111 SLG, 3 2B, 3 HR, 7 RBI) received consideration, while others on the ballot were Baltimore's Aubrey Huff (.429, .952 SLG, 3 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 4 RBI), Boston's David Ortiz (.478, .957 SLG, 2 2B, 3 HR, 7 RBI) and Jermaine Dye (.364, .909 SLG, 3 2B, 3 HR, 7 RBI) of the Chicago White Sox. Scott Baker of the Twins (2- 0, 0.56 ERA, 11 SO, 16.0 IP), Erik Bedard of the Orioles (2-0, 3.55 ERA, 17 SO) and John Lackey of the Angels (2-0, 1.72 ERA, 1 SHO, 10 SO) were the pitchers nominated.
