NEW YORK - Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Brandon Webb, who went 2-0 and threw a complete game shutout, and Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, who hit .519 (14-27), have been named the National League Co-Players of the Week for the period of July 30th-August 5th. Zimmerman led the N.L. with 14 hits and 24 total bases, helping lead Washington to a 6-0 week. His 11 RBI ranked second in the league, and he tied for second in the N.L. with four doubles and seven runs scored. He also recorded three three-hit games (8/2 vs. CIN, 8/3 and 8/5 vs. STL). The University of Virginia product posted the game-winning RBI in the Nationals' final at-bat on both Friday and Sunday vs. the Cardinals, and in between, he hit two home runs at RFK Stadium on Saturday. Webb led the N.L. with two wins and recorded a 0.00 ERA over 16 innings pitched. On July 31st at San Diego, Brandon allowed just three hits in seven shutout innings in Arizona's 4-0 victory. On August 5th at Dodger Stadium, Webb tossed a complete-game shutout in a 3-0 Arizona win. He has put together a streak of 24 consecutive scoreless innings, not allowing a run over his last three starts. Other nominees this past week included Webb's Arizona teammate Doug Davis (1-0, 0.00 ERA); Zimmerman's Washington teammates Nook Logan (.524, 11 H) and Dmitri Young (.478, 3 2B, 6 RBI); Colorado's Garrett Atkins (.375, 2 HR, 14 RBI) and Matt Holliday (.429, 5 2B, 4 RBI); San Diego's Scott Hairston (.417, 3 HR, 5 RBI) and Jake Peavy (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 10 SO); Houston's Lance Berkman (.269, 3 HR, 4 RBI); Milwaukee's Ryan Braun (.321, 2 HR, 3 RBI) and Prince Fielder (.364, 2 HR, 8 RBI); Pittsburgh's Jack Wilson (.563, 2 HR, 6 RBI); Atlanta's Matt Diaz (.421, 2 HR, 5 RBI), Yunel Escobar (.444, 4 RBI), Jeff Francoeur (.423, 4 RBI), Kelly Johnson (.522, 2 HR, 7 RBI) and Tim Hudson (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 7 SO); Moises Alou (.389, 2 HR, 4 RBI), Marlon Anderson (.308, 7 RBI) and Jose Reyes (.323, 4 RBI) of the Mets; and Philadelphia's Pat Burrell (.417, 4 HR, 5 RBI) and Tadahito Iguchi (.345, 1 HR, 2 RBI).
