OAKLAND, Calif. - The Golden State Warriors have re-signed free agent forward Matt Barnes, it was announced Monday by Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Mullin. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not announced. Barnes, 27, appeared in a career-high 76 games with the Warriors last season, averaging career-best figures in scoring (9.8), rebounding (4.6), assists (2.1) and minutes played (23.9). Additionally, he established single-season career-highs in three-point field goals made (106), steals (73) and blocked shots (41). The four-year NBA veteran, who had played for four NBA teams during his first three years in the league prior to joining Golden State, started 23 games during the 2006-07 campaign, averaging 15.1 points and 6.7 rebounds. He scored a career-high 36 points on January 3 at Memphis and netted 20-plus points on eight occasions overall. "We're extremely pleased to have Matt back with us," Mullin said. "He was a key contributor to our success last season and we anticipate that he will play a vital role with our club again during the upcoming season. The intangibles that he provides our team – energy, hustle and effort – are a tribute to his work ethic and have certainly aided his development as a player. Plus, he is a very good fit for our team." The 6'7" UCLA alumnus appeared in 11 games with the Warriors during the 2007 NBA Playoffs, averaging 11.1 points and 5.7 rebounds in 30.0 minutes. He registered his first playoff career double-double in Golden State's series-clinching victory over the Dallas Mavericks in Game 6 of the First Round on May 3 at ORACLE Arena (16 points, 11 rebounds). "I am really excited to be back with the Warriors," Barnes said. "As I've said all along, this was my first choice and the place that I wanted to continue my career. I really enjoy playing for this team and feel very comfortable with the entire organization." Entering the 2007-08 NBA season, Barnes has appeared in 213 games overall during his four-year career, averaging 5.9 points and 3.5 rebounds.
